India's disaster deaths more than doubled last year. One state is 62% of the total, and the ministry's own table does not add up
A written reply laid before the Lok Sabha on Tuesday puts hydro-meteorological deaths at 6,631. Six columns fail to reconcile with their own state rows, and Uttar Pradesh reports a 47-fold rise.

India rose to 94th of 167 countries on the 2026 UN Sustainable Development Report, its best position yet and an 18-place climb since 2015 — even as the report cautions that only about a third of its targets are on track for 2030.
