Brazil’s electoral roll lists 297,977 voters aged 100 or over. The census found 37,814 centenarians
Nine states hold 93.6% of them, and in every one fewer than a quarter have ever been fingerprinted. Where rolls were cleaned between elections, the numbers collapsed by up to 86%.
Brazil’s most gender-balanced line on the ballot is the one no quota touches
Women are about 43 per cent of the candidacies registered for vice-governor in October’s election and about 16 per cent of those for governor. Neither office is covered by the candidacy quota that governs Brazil’s proportional races.
