Venezuela earthquake toll surpasses 1,700 as aftershocks slow desperate search

Officials said at least 1,719 people were killed and about 5,000 injured by last week's twin earthquakes near Caracas, as more than 600 aftershocks hampered a search involving rescuers from 27 countries and US military field hospitals.
